Hope is not lost.

If you race a bike for money long enough you tend to get a little jaded. I'll admit to being bitter and cynical sometimes, but then something ... someone like Danny MacAskill comes along and I remember - as if by a 2x4 to the head - that hope is not lost, and that being on two wheels is about the best place to be.

I had the good fortune of hanging out with the cool kid from "a really small island" in Scotland at this year's Interbike trade show. He's quite a bit smaller than you might think from watching the videos. I guess it's true what they say ... Tom Cruise is short.

Anyway, since he still isn't all that well recognized - heck, more people were talking to me than to him - I got to chat with him for close to an hour. Folks, I know this weblog is primarily about road bicycles, but I will continue to post just about anything Danny wants to film or have filmed. This guy was working in a bike shop full-time until just a year ago. Then he and a buddy decided to shoot a video and throw it up on YouTube. Now he is overbooked. All I can say is, "God bless Al Gore's Internet."

The amazing thing is that had he not been discovered by the viral masses, Danny would still be doing the same stuff we get to watch ... and we would all be the less fortunate ones ... not him.

Enjoy the weekend.

From what I understand, he has basically blown the whole sport apart – there are no other riders even remotely in the same league as him. To put it in terms that readers of this blog would understand, it’s as if a young Eddy Merckx were racing your local Cat 4 world championship race: The rest of the field would be blown out of the water and not know how to respond.

    Did you hear about this?

    :(

Love his quote though: “I’ve spent so much time on the bike I can’t walk very well.”
